Jack Worthing has invented a ne'er- do-well brother, Ernest, to escape the boredom of the country and call on the ravishing Gwendolyn in London, despite the disapproval of her mother, Lady Bracknell. Then his friend, Algernon Moncrief, "borrows" Ernest to court Jack's young and lovely ward, Cecily, in the country. When they all wind up in one place, everyone's love life gets very complicated!
